wide legs

Perhaps it is because the skinny jean has been one of the only styles of pant in my wardrobe for such a long time, but I am absolutely loving the current wide leg trend. There is something indubitably liberating about putting on a pair of pants into which you don't have to wiggle yourself. With newly freed ankles, you simply step into the roomy design and watch yourself transform into a free-flowing silhouette of the person you once were.

Now there are some exceptions - I have certainly tried on my fair share of wide leg pants that looked amazing on the hanger, but somehow turn me into some sort of bottom-half balloon.  There is a point, I think, where things become too flowy, too wide. We all want to maintain our body's given shape, with a glimpse of our natural figure surfacing. But the wonderful thing about the wide leg pant is the mystery that it provides to the outsider. With a pair of skinny jeans, everyone knows exactly how long, how thick, how muscular one's legs might be - but there's a certain sexiness in knowing that a leg exists beneath the fabric without seeing the particulars. To know the shape yet not know the feel of one's curves is beautiful. Something is still left to the imagination - the body's shape becomes what we each, individually, see it to be. When there's a little extra room between the seam and the leg, we are able to creatively explore the body, beyond its exact curves and valleys. Fabric flows down the length of your leg and the imagination drapes itself into a novel form; the epitome of elegance.
